Refurbished Shop in Callander
Have you visited Callander? Heading there this summer? Then make a pitstop in Callander to visit Heather at her newly refurbished shop.
Having opened the shop last year on a tight schedule it has been so nice to be able to put my own stamp on the space this yeas. The original occupier of the shop was a hairdresser, hence all the tiles and mirrors, so I really wanted to have these taken off to make room for my own style.
Plastering walls during minus 5 weather doesn’t really help with the drying process but after 2 weeks of being shut in March the shop was finally coming together. I managed to source a fabulous rustic table from Rust Works who are based in Glasgow. The table top being an old barn door from Cumbernauld and the legs from and old paint factory in Dalkeith. This will be perfect for hosting workshops!
I wanted the shop to feel cosier and inviting and something that you wouldn’t normally find on the high street. So here it is! My workshop is still housed in the other half of the shop but there is now room for more of my artwork and plenty of room to start introducing some other jewellers work as well.
I currently stock Gilly Langton, a jeweller based in Plockton and Donna Barry, based in Edinburgh. Gilly hand dyes elastic to create statement, colourful, lightweight pieces and Donna fuses silver into petal like shapes creating delicate, considered collections.
I’m really excited to see where this year takes me and have cut back on my events this year to really push activity at the shop which will include hosting my first round of workshops in the near future!
I’m still very much inspired by my island home, the colours and shapes within my jewellery evoking shoreline scenes found on the Isle of Skye. Callander and it’s surrounding area is also inspiring. I have been focussing on developing my ink drawings of trees and having the colours of the changing seasons surrounding the shop are a daily inspiration. I’ve also been developing my drawings into other things so stay tuned for more details on that!
