It’s been all about rings!
The past few months have gone in a flash and with the looming deadline of having a new member of team join us, I’ve had lots of commissions to finish before the end of March.
This year so far it has been all about rings and I have compiled a few of my favourites from the past month.
Kerrie & Alan
I don’t normally make engagement rings but Alan and Kerrie came to me in January with a vision of having something a bit different using a couple of Alan’s inherited gold rings. Kerrie wanted something with an emerald which would work perfectly with the 9ct yellow gold.
I set about sketching a selection of rings as we were discussing likes and dislikes and went through a variety of ring profiles. This ring was to sit alongside an inherited 18ct gold wide ring that would be used as a wedding band, so, she wanted something to compliment the scale and not something too small and delicate.
I decided to have this drawn up on CAD so that Kerrie could visualise how the ring would look better and here is the final design and piece.

Carys & Brooke
Carys came to me last year to design and make her girlfriend an engagement ring and after she said yes they returned to have something made for Carys.
Again, Carys wanted something untraditional and liked the thought of using a coloured stone for the centre of the ring. I sketched a few designs and after making a silver sample and choosing a gorgeous olive green tourmaline for the centre stone, Carys was happy to go ahead. I always try to make a silver sample so that the customer can fully visualise the ring with the stone and also to do a fit check before committing to making in gold. I had this ring cast and set the tourmaline with two white diamonds either side. The shank is slightly hammered giving a beautiful texture and slightly matte finish.

Barbara
Barbara emailed me after seeing some bespoke pieces I had made for a friend and wanted something made with two unworn rings she had. She also wanted to scrap some 9ct gold to put against the cost of the piece. We had a consultation in the workshop in Callander where I could show her an array of different options where we could use all five diamonds. She liked a pair of cluster earrings and it was from this that I designed the final ring. She wanted the diamonds to be scattered throughout and this was the perfect base to do this. I make a silver master and had it cast in her gold and set the diamonds throughout. It’s truly a showstopper ring!

Kim
After corresponding over email detailing what she was looking for, Kim came to the worship in Callander to have a consultation about making her an engagement ring. She wanted a single diamond (lab grown or natural) set in the style of one of my previous ring designs. I had four stones for her to choose from, two lab grown and two natural and we went through a modelling process with trusty blu tak! She chose a gorgeous lab grown diamond to be set on a chunky 9ct gold flat ring which would then be heavily distressed in my style. I’m so happy with the final result and so was she!
Final piece
Julie
Following on from my last blog post, Julie had come to me with a gorgeous selection of her mothers jewellery that she wanted to me use the stones from and make whole new pieces in silver. This ring is the latest in the collection. I used five diamonds from her rings and used a 22ct gold ring that was in there to set them in. I love the combination of 22ct alongside silver. Julie wanted a chunky silver ring so I sent her three silver samples of different widths and she chose this one. The surface of the ring is heavily distressed in my signature style.
