Bespoke Engagement Ring
Emerald and Diamond Engagement Ring.
I had the absolute pleasure of designing a very good friends engagement ring and I am so excited to share with you the final outcome.
Read below the stages we went through to come to this final design.
Where we started…
The brief was ‘art deco inspired with a Heather twist’, this was a great place to start and really helped that I knew the clients fiance. I started by doing a layout of some initial designs for our first meeting to see if there was a design that stood out.
The client had supplied me with two rings which both had diamonds set into them. We really wanted to be able to use some of these so the designing started there. He was also very specific about using an emerald as the central stone so I did a selection of designs with different shaped stones.
Number two of the 6 designs was chosen and this then allowed me to source a selection of emeralds to choose the final size from.
A selection of mock-ups with the diamonds with different sized emeralds
Next step, onto CAD
Having taken a course in CAD (Computer Aided Design) in the summer of 2019 I have a grasp of how to use the programme however needed the help of a CAD designer to perfect the setting sizes and layout of the ring. I have always been a hand maker however for the precision needed for this design, using CAD was a no brainer.
After the final drawing was checked I sent the file off to the casters so it could be cast in 18ct gold. Some of the gold I had scrapped from the two rings provided by the client was used against this part of the ring.
Final stages
After the ring was cast, it was sent, along with the stones to my setter to be set and finished.
Stone setting in this design benefitted massively from a professional setter completing it.
The completed ring was then sent to Cambodia where after 5 long days of sweating it finally got to its owner where he proposed on a Tuk Tuk to his fiance!
